Farm Philly 2026 Winter Convening

On Saturday, February 21st, community gardeners, composters, and volunteers gathered at The Discovery Center in Strawberry Mansion to prepare for the upcoming season, build ties, and celebrate last year’s accomplishments. Farm Philly invited members of their Community Agriculture Network, Community Compost Network, and program partners including DBHIDS, PWD, The Neighborhood Gardens Trust, The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and RAIR Philly to come together to share resources and strengthen the bonds across the urban agriculture community on park land that Farm Philly supports.

Farm Philly staff shared news and announcements to help sites prepare for the year including the opening of the new Agriculture Resource Center in April, the new compost and mulch delivery program open to all public sites in the city including community gardens on private property, and new model governance documents for gardens to use. Farm Philly shared data collection numbers from the past year including:

  • Over 12,000 lbs of food scraps collected at Community Compost Sites.
  • Over 5,000 lbs of produce donated to neighbors by Community Gardens on park land.
  • Over 50,000 lbs of produce grown in Community Gardens on park land.

Attendees also enjoyed a delicious lunch catered by Casa Mexico. And some lucky guests went home with fabulous raffle prizes including an electric string trimmer, an assortment of hand tools, tote bags and harvest bags.

Everyone in attendance left feeling uplifted, energized, and grateful to be a part of such a thriving and caring community.
