Carousel House Farm Summer 25 Update

It has been a busy summer season over at the Carousel House Farm, and we have been having such a great time growing, learning, and connecting with the community! In recent happenings, we have a new farm lead for the 2025 season, Uma! She joined us back in June to get everything growing and going, and she has been super excited to be on the farm.
The farm has been buzzing with activity, as we have been hosting a variety of programs. Youth from the local Tzu Chi Association, as well as student interns from nearby Nice Roots Farm have joined us for fun, educational field trip sessions. Additionally, our lovely friends from PowerCorps PHL, a local organization offering specialized job training, have been back on the farm throughout the season. They have truly lent such a hand in supporting not only our space, but many valued spaces around the city. We would like to give them a massive shoutout, as they have been vital to our planting, crop-tending, and farm maintenance this year! Learn more about PowerCorps PHL at their homepage, www.powercorpsphl.org.
Recurring volunteer nights on Tuesdays have been back in full swing as well this year, as we have tended to the land and harvested our beautiful crops with many amazing participants who we are so thankful for. We had a fantastic cherry harvest with POP back in June, as well as a pickling taste and make workshop in August! Please come out and share in the fun of one of our weekly volunteer nights, every Tuesday from 5-7 pm through the end of September! We are located at 4300 Avenue of the Republic.
In other news, the farm has become quite the pollinator paradise this summer, as we have executed planting with the bees, butterflies, and birds in mind. These are all creatures that aid in the essential pollination process of our produce! Our current assortment of pollinators includes Tulsi basil, marigolds, zinnias, yellow coneflowers, sweet alyssum, mint, lavender, maypops, and much more. Planting pollinators in your garden is a simple tactic that makes you look like a garden pro, as they can help increase crop yield (useful for those of us working with small growing spaces at home), as well as beautify a space. Try planting a hardy pollinator with your fall crops, such as aster, black-eyed Susan, coneflower, or sunflower!
