Starting a Farmer's Market on Park Land
Application Procedures
For Existing Farmers Markets Operators
Apply for a Permit on Park Land
Fill out an Interest Form with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation (for markets on Park land) and obtain proof of insurance: Certificate Of Insurance (COI) with the City of Philadelphia listed as additional insured.
- Send the form to the w.matthew.lepchuk@phila.gov
- Once the Interest Form is approved, a free permit will be issued.
For New Farmers Markets Operators
Including Those
Applying for a Permit on Park Land
- Review the Farmers Market Operator’s Guide
- Contact the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, Office of Food Protection to register as an operator and obtain approval of your vendors.
- Contact the Department of Licenses and Inspections:
- Commercial Activity License
- Zoning Approval for markets on private property.
- Also requires Zoning Board Approval
- Contact the Streets Department to obtain a parking permit for loading/unloading if needed.
- Additional zoning requirements
- City Council approval is required for public sites not previously approved.
- List of pre-approved sites here.
